Cushing’s Free Naturally is a natural supplement for supporting cushing’s horses. Equine Cushing’s disease is also known as pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction (PPID).

Cushing’s in horses shows up as a longer, shaggy coat and delayed shedding after winter, laminitis/founder, increased sweating, muscle and weight loss and sometimes excessive drinking and urinating.

Cushing’s Free Naturally is a natural herbal supplement useful in supporting the Cushing’s horse. Horse owners have reported a noticeable improvement in just a few weeks of using it.

Cushing’s Free Naturally herbal supplement for Cushing’s horses offers support when prescribed treatments may not be agreeing with your horse.

Studies show about 80% of all PPID horses are also metabolic with insulin resistance. If your horse is also insulant resistant add Sugar Balance Naturally.

*Important for First Time Users*

For best results when starting Cushings Free Naturally do both a Liver and Kidney Cleanse too. The job of the Liver is to filter toxins so that the Kidneys can then flush them from the body.

In horses who have Cushing’s those organs can get overloaded trying to help the body deal with the extra cortisol and hormones. For best results both cleanses should be done along with Cushing’s Free Naturally.

Do both cleanses for 30 days and then continue with Cushings Free Naturally once the cleanses are finished.

We offer the Equine Cushing’s Essentials Bundle which includes: Cushing’s Free Naturally, Kidney Cleanse Naturally and Liver Cleanse Naturally.

Also, Kidney Cleanse Naturally & Liver Cleanse Naturally are now available in the Equine Detox Bundle-Liver & Kidney Cleanse for Horses

You will know the supplement is working if symptoms start to improve. This may take as long as 3 months.

Before and After Cushing’s Free Naturally

What are the first signs of Equine Cushing’s disease in horses?

Cushing’s disease usually occurs in mature horses starting around age 15 although there are cases in horses as young as 7. The symptoms start gradually with the most noticeable being an unusually thick shaggy coat that stays on after winter and laminitis that occurs out of nowhere.

The link between laminitis and Cushing’s Disease ( PPID ), though not completely understood, is believed to be caused by high levels of cortisol and cortisol like hormones in the blood circulation.

Read: How to Recognize the Symptoms of Equine Cushing’s Disease (PPID)

Symptoms of Cushing’s Disease in Horses:

  • Winter coat that gets very long, matted and curly especially around the legs
  • Late or no shedding of winter coat
  • Increased sweating
  • Excessive drinking and urination
  • Low energy and poor performance
  • Looking “Pot-bellied”
  • Loss of topline and decreased muscle tone
  • Cresty neck fat pads above the eyes and on the backend
  • Sudden and recurring laminitis/founder
  • Slow wound healing and infections

What happens if Cushing’s is left untreated in horses?

Left untreated, Equine Cushing’s disease can lead to serious health issues for your horse. Severe neurological problems can occur causing uncoordinated movement that gets worse and in extreme cases horses can’t get up after lying down.

They may start to breathe heavy, sweat while standing still and become extremely lethargic. Severe laminitis causing founder and ultimately… death.

In April 2024 the vet told me that my 18-year-old Welsh Pony most likely has Cushings Disease. Rather than spending hundreds to have her tested (and then treated with medications), I decided to start researching natural remedies to treat her in a more holistic way first. I was pleasantly surprised to find Alternative Animal and their “Cushing’s Free” supplement. In just a matter of two months, I noticed significant improvement with her coat and weight gain. She went from being mopey and not feeling well, to returning to her normal spunky self. She started gaining weight quickly. Her attitude improved. Last fall and into winter, finances were tight, so I couldn’t purchase the supplement regularly like I wanted to. I noticed her health declining again (in a very short time). I reordered the supplement as soon as I could, and once again, it took no time at all for her to start looking good again. I stand by this company and the products that they put out. I have recommended this company to several people, including my vet. I am a forever customer and am so thankful that they make products that are not only made with safe-and-natural ingredients, but are reasonably priced and affordable. I am looking forward to starting my 19yr old OTTB on the equine joint supplement this fall. I’m expecting great results because I’ve experienced nothing but that thus far! P.S. She is healthily right around 500lbs. I find she does best with 2 scoops per day in her feed. :)

So far we are loving this product. Cindy Lou Who is a 30 year old pony with cushings she has recently been struggling with skin issues. After starting the cushings supplement and kidney and liver cleanse, her skin issues improved with out topical medication. She is still fuzzy but I am hoping this spring we see a different pony. Right now we are 1 month on the supplement and feeling great.

A fantastic change in a month. Weight gain, noticeable difference in mood and a huge shift from a listless and slow moving pony to a bucking, running, and head tossing sassy pony. There is a noticeable difference in her hooves and the foundering symptoms have dissipated.

Q & A

Ask a question
My 30 yr horse has been on Chaste Berry for years, now has severe laminitis, and I don’t know if it’s too late to start this product? You mentioned that it can take several weeks. Can she stay on pain meds in addition to this? mona motz asked on December 11, 2024

It’s never too late to start supporting your horse with natural supplements like Cushing’s Free Naturally. Many customers have seen improvements even in older horses with advanced symptoms. Since your horse has severe laminitis, it’s important to continue any prescribed pain management and always check with your vet to ensure compatibility with herbs in your horse's specific treatment plan.

While it can take several weeks to see results, some horses may show changes sooner. Starting the supplements now, could help support your horse’s overall health and comfort. Additionally, you may want to consider incorporating the Liver Cleanse Naturally and Kidney Cleanse Naturally for further detoxification and Suga Balance Naturally for metabolic support.

I was wondering if herbs, fed long-term, like cushings free, would lose their effectiveness as the body gets used to them? I read that this could happen with Chasteberry herb. Should I take a break at certain intervals or feed a different herbal supplement to keep them effective? LHK asked on November 26, 2024

Concerns about herbs losing effectiveness over time stem from the body potentially adapting to certain active compounds, but this is not typically the case when using well-formulated herbal blends like Cushing's Free Naturally.

Cushing's Free Naturally when used as directed, contains a blend of complementary herbs that work synergistically to support the endocrine system, and this variety reduces the likelihood ofthe body "getting used to" any single ingredient, like chasteberry.

The herbs in Cushing's Free Naturally are designed to work synergistically, targeting multiple aspects of Cushing's symptoms and overall health. Because of this, they are less likely to lose effectiveness compared to a single-herb approach. That said, it’s always good to keep an eye on your horse’s progress. For long-term use, you don’t usually need to take breaks or rotate supplements unless you notice a plateau in your horse’s progress. However, if you’re concerned about maintaining optimal effectiveness, consider doing a Kidney and Liver Cleanse every 6–12 months to keep the body’s detox pathways functioning well, which helps your horse absorb and utilize herbal supplements better.

When feeding multiple products together, such as Cushings Free, Adrenal Support and Sugar Balance for Cushings and IR horses, many ingredients overlap like Ashwagandha, Burdock, Ginseng and Chastetree Berry. Can this cause a problem, will the horse be receiving an overdose of certain herbs and will that have adverse effects? Or is it safe to use multiple products together? LHK asked on October 31, 2024

As far as we know there is no contraindication to some overlap in moderate amounts found in the recommended dosage. However you may want to use them in separate AM & PM feedings. Experiment and see what works best for your horse.

The amount of Vit E and Chaste Berry we use is sufficient for supporting Equine Cushing's Disease. All of the ingredients in each one of our blends have a purpose and work synergistically together for maximum results.
